The story is told with a 'folksy' voice, similar to Backman or maybe Keillor. It starts simple, and stays that way, but the simple parts build up and connect by the end. It's a great study into what makes a fulfilling relationship between people.

Afterwards, I realized that the main point-of-view was a really good representation of an alcoholic's mind. You're not meant to hate the man, but I found myself getting very angry at him. I guess I have some more to investigate in therapy...
